Yet, her hips, legs and feet are seen only from in profile.
With Désirée, Salinas gives a sly nod to the tomb paintings of ancient Egypt, which depicted the human body on two planes: the upper body and head are turned towards the viewer and the lower torso and legs are shown in profile.
