For Salinas everything about the sea and water were of great importance in his life. He had a lifelong affinity and yearning for the sea. These profound emotions are expertly expressed in his seascapes.
Salinas grew up in the Mediterranean seaport of Alexandria, Egypt, spending extended family summer vacations at the seaside villages of the French and Italian Rivieras, or the family homes in Paris or along the French coast of Brittany and Normandy.
He was entranced with the romance of water: the turquoise of the Mediterranean, the rhythm of the Seine flowing through the heart of Paris, the overwhelming power of the ocean, the tranquility of hidden lakes and ponds.
